Family Day Trip – Sunday 22nd May

This year, the PA is organising a family day trip to the Kensington Museums in London. The coach will drop us off by the Natural History Museum on Exhibition Road, which is walking distance from the Science Museum and the V&A Museum. Hyde Park, the Diana Memorial Gardens, and Kensington High Street/Knightsbridge are all also within easy walking distance, in case you prefer a day in the park, or a look round the shops to the museums.

Entrance to the Museums is free (although please note you have to pay and book tickets in advance for some exhibitions). The price for the day will be £4 per adult and £2 per child for payment towards the cost of the coach. This is subsidised by the PA to keep the costs as low as possible.

The coach will leave school at 9.30am and the journey should be no more than 45 minutes. We will leave Kensington Road at 3.30pm to return to St Albans by about 4.30pm.

If you would like to come, please complete the information below and return the slip with payment in an envelope marked with your child’s name and year group to the office collection box by Friday 14th May. There are only 70 places available; they will be given on a first come, first served basis, so please be quick!

Classroom helper course

Do you help in school as a volunteer, or are you interested in doing so? Would you like to know more about what your child does each day after you drop them off?

From Monday 9th May, the WEA (in conjunction with the Alban Way consortium) will be running a FREE 6 week course (2 hours per week at Camp, Monday mornings, 9.30-11.30). Practical Parent Helpers will give you background knowledge, practical ideas, and an understanding of how children learn. Topics include Health & Safety, introduction to the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum, Reading and Communicating with children, Child Behaviour issues and more.

You might just want to take this course for interest, or it could lead to further study on a nationally accredited teaching course. Although, it would be lovely to get parents more involved, there is no requirement to help at the school following the course.

If you are interested, please contact Annie New asap . This course will not run unless there is sufficient uptake, so if you would like to book a place, please act now.

Many thanks

Tess Machling (Mum to Nellie in reception)

Year 6’s Book Stall makes headlines!

The Herts Advertiser (December 16th, p9) has an article this week highlighting Year 6’s Book Stall at this years Christmas Fair! You can see the article here.

The team sold 50 books, all written by Year 6 pupils, at £1 each. The proceeds were split equally between the school and Children in Need. Well done Year 6!

Overall the fair raised over £2,500 in total – a record breaking year – thank you to all who helped out on the day and everyone who came along and had fun!
